Gear ratio calculator
Every gear pair trades speed for torque. Chain your stages below to see what the mechanism actually does.
Gear stages
Add a stage for every gear, sprocket, or pulley pair in the path from the motor to the mechanism.
Stage 1
3.00:1
Total ratio
3.00:1
A reduction: slower output, more torque.
Output speed
104RPM
Torque multiplier
3.00×
Before friction. Real mechanisms lose roughly 5–10% per stage, so treat this as a ceiling.
Rule of thumb
Speed and torque trade directly. If you double the reduction you halve the speed and roughly double the torque — you never get both.
